Although they are primarily built for passengers, the world's high-speed railways occasionally transport lightweight, time-sensitive exports and high-value cargo
Lightweight cargo such as mail, parcels, fresh food, and electronic components rather than heavy bulk commodities like coal or steel.
China uses its high-speed network, the largest in the world, for express parcel delivery and e-commerce goods. France and Italy have also tested or operated dedicated high-speed mail and pallet services.
Indirectly, domestic high-speed rail networks boost overall export volumes by connecting industrial hubs, reducing transit friction, and encouraging trade collaboration among exporting firms.
Although not the main avenue for exports, high-speed railways are a viable way to bolster economic activity.
