This past week, Brazilian social media influencer Bianca Barreto was sentenced to two years of conditional liberty and fined R$20,000 ($3,900), having been accused of criminal acts of discrimination due to the use of male pronouns to address transgender Federal Representative/Federal Deputy Duda Salabert.

Bianca was found guilty because she deliberately and adversely used the correct but opposite-gender pronouns the Representative uses to identify herself.

In 2024, the social influencer Barreto posted a video criticizing the legal action brought against the conservative and popular Rep. Nikolas Ferreira, who addressed transgender Rep. Duda Salabert in masculine terms. Barreto promised to keep addressing the representative in masculine terms on her social media platform, stating that "a man is a man, a woman is a woman" and noting that Salabert is married to a woman and has a kid, according to the Brazilian newspaper Gazeta do Povo.

The United Kingdom is notorious for this, and it is something that cannot spread.
