QCI #012 - Japan Rumored to Join BRICS
America's post-WWII ally and trade partner in the East, Japan, has been rumored to be considering joining the BRICS, even after Japan's Prime Minister visited the White House in February 2025.
What led to this monumental decision was Trump's Tariffs. The US purchases nearly a third of Japan's car exports, as well as electronics, high-tech components, agricultural products, fish, and seafood.
This would be a monumental shift in Geopolitics, as the main members of BRICS are Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and Indonesia. Asia would essentially be BRICS.
Canada has also decided to "side with" Brazil in Mercosur due to shifting global trade dynamics and US protectionism. The only other major economies not in BRICS are the UK, Australia, France, Italy, South Korea, and Germany.
Japan also protects US Trade Routes in the Pacific, which would come at a cost if Japan were to switch political blocs.
President Trump needs to rectify the trade deals with Canada and Japan now, as this is, amongst all his wins, a mistake.
